How you can benefit from attending DS•Connect 25 on October 11, 2025?

by Lisa Holmquist

I remember feeling so overwhelmed at my first Down syndrome conference. There was so much to learn and know! But I quickly realized that the event was designed to provide great information and unlimited growth for families like ours. It was inspiring to meet so many individuals with Down syndrome of all ages, and to connect with their families and the local and national experts who presented.

By the end of my first conference I was tired - but inspired! And I was armed with knowledge that benefited our son numerous times over the years - too numerous to count.

Over the years, my family and I have continued to attend conferences, including the NDSC convention. These events have been invaluable sources of information. I particularly enjoyed a session about college options, and also one about nurturing romantic relationships for people with Down syndrome (when they are ready for one). Another favorite session focused on promoting independence across the lifespan, a critical aspect of ensuring that our children have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Our first DSCLV conference highlighted Brian Chicoine and Dennis McGuire sharing ways to help with “self-talk” and anxiety in people with Down syndrome of all ages, which has been so helpful understanding how my son thinks and his “groove”.

My favorite sessions last year at DS•Connect24 were Brain Skotko’s sessions and Terri Couwenhoven’s talk on preparing for puberty.

I am excited to share that the theme for DS•Connect25 on Saturday, October 11, 2025 is “Meeting The Future”. Keep an eye out for the event registration in early Summer!

Attending Down syndrome conferences is a wonderful way to connect with other families, gain valuable insights and knowledge, and support your child's growth and development. We hope you’ll join us in October 2025 in Las Vegas!
